Distracted driving leads to crash into downtown businesses

A 23-year-old Roseburg woman was cited for driving while using a mobile device after she allegedly crashed into the storefronts of two downtown Roseburg businesses early Friday morning.

Roseburg Police officers responded to a reported non-injury accident on Southeast Jackson Street around 2 a.m., according to the police log.

RPD says Stephanie Mahoney admitted to officers that she was using her cell phone when she drove her truck onto the sidewalk and into the fronts of Sugar Magnolia and The People’s Goods.

The accident caused considerable damage to the building’s brick façade and awning, shattered numerous large windows and wrecked multiple street signs.
