Oregon Housing and Community Services has paid out over $289 million through the Oregon Emergency Rental Assistance Program a month earlier than expected and years ahead of federal deadlines.

A release from Oregon Housing and Community Services said as of Wednesday, the emergency response program has paid out $289.6 million in federal emergency rental assistance to nearly 40,600 households.

The release said due to demonstrated ongoing need and feedback from the community and housing stakeholders, OHCS is dedicating additional resources to tenants applying to OERAP. These funds are in addition to the $100 million that the Oregon Legislature allocated for emergency rental assistance and the $1.1 million in reallocated funds from the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
