AGENCIES WORK THROUGH THE NIGHT AFTER A SERIES OF MULTI-VEHICLE CRASHES

February 22, 2022 10:40 a.m.

Oregon State Police and several local agencies worked throughout the night Monday and into Tuesday to get a section of Interstate 84 20 miles east of Pendleton opened and cleared of vehicles, following a series of accidents that occurred Monday afternoon due to snowy and icy weather conditions.

Troopers from the Pendleton and La Grande Area Commands along with crews from many other agencies got over 170 vehicles out of the 1.75 mile stretch of the freeway. Uninjured persons who could not otherwise drive from the scene due to the blockage or damaged vehicles, were transported to the Pendleton Convention Center for reunification. A local taxi company and a church provided vans to transport people from the convention center to local hotels at needed.

OSP said several sections of the freeway still are under extreme weather conditions, so traveling in that area is still hazardous. Check road conditions at www.tripcheck.com
