FOUR CHAPLAINS LEGION OF HONOR FEBRUARY 19TH

The 10th annual Four Chaplains Service will be held in Roseburg on Saturday February 19th.

Organizer Jim Little said they will be inducting and surprising a number of persons into the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor this year. He said the inductees are outstanding leaders from various walks of life in the county. Little said all have been approved by the Four Chaplains Chapel Committee in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This year the heroic and tragic story of the US Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba which saved 133 survivors of the sunken ship will be told. Little said also this year will be a special posthumous induction of well-known veteran’s supporter and veteran advocate, Owen Dykema, Captain, USNR-Retired.

Since 2016, 31 Douglas County citizens have been inducted into the Legion of Honor. A most recent inductee was Frank Moore in 2021.

This year’s ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Roseburg American Legion Post 16 at 406 Southeast Oak Street. Additional parking is available at the nearby food court lot. Call 672-4635 for more information.
