PLANNING COMMISSION APPLICATIONS SOUGHT

December 16, 2021 3:30 a.m.

The City of Roseburg has opened a new round of applications from people who’d like to serve on the Roseburg Planning Commission.

The commission has 2 vacancies. Both must be filled by someone who lives within the city limits.

Members are appointed by the Roseburg City Council following an application and interview process. At least 6 commissioners must be Roseburg residents while the 7th can live in the city’s urban growth boundary.

The first review of applications is expected to begin on January 14th. Qualified applicants will be invited to a virtual interview with the council at a later date, prior to a 7:00 p.m. Monday council meeting.

Commissioners serve 4-year terms unless they are filling a vacant unexpired term. 1 vacancy exists because Commissioner Christy Palmini resigned after moving outside the city limits. The person appointed to fill that vacancy would serve until the end of 2024. The other vacancy exists because Commission Stephanie Newman indicated she did not want to be reappointed when her term expires at the end of this year. The city council accepted her resignation on Monday.

The commission meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first Monday of each month to consider long- and short-range land-use development issues within the city and the urban growth boundary. The commission makes decisions based on City Land Use and Development Regulations. It also reviews and acts on quasi-judicial applications filed by land owners and/or their agents as well as on legislative applications initiated by city staff. While some applications are a recommendation forwarded to the city council for final consideration, other decisions are final unless appealed to the council.
