A transient was jailed following an alleged theft and trespass incident on Sunday.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 10:30 a.m. a witness allegedly saw the 37-year old steal a pair of shoes at the top of a driveway in the 1000 block of North Old Pacific Highway in Myrtle Creek, and leave his shoes behind. The report said a second witness went after the man and confronted him down the road. When that happened, the suspect reportedly produced a two-foot long heavy chain and acted like he wanted to fight.

The report said this caused the second witness to retrieve a shotgun from his vehicle. The suspect walked away at that point. A passerby saw the confrontation and said the witness didn’t point the weapon at the suspect.

The report said a deputy and an officer from Myrtle Creek Police arrived just seconds later. The suspect was wearing the stolen shoes and allegedly admitted to taking the shoes because his feet hurt.

The transient, identified as 37-year old Raul Rosario was charged with second-degree counts of theft and trespass and for a parole violation. Rosario was detained without bail.
