SEARCH AND RESCUE HOLDING MEETING FOR PROSPECTIVE VOLUNTEERS

November 8, 2021 3:55 a.m.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is holding a meeting for perspective Search and Rescue volunteers on Wednesday night.

Lieutenant Brad O’Dell said there are several ways residents can help. Along with physically searching via vehicle or on-foot, there is a specific need for volunteers to help on the Communications Team. People who are comfortable utilizing radio communications and equipment and those willing to dictate or keep a log of radio traffic are needed.

O’Dell said there are also vacancies in other areas like Mountain Rescue. This includes people interested in rope work and/or with the ability to cover difficult terrain and longer distances with gear. Those with experience in snowshoeing and cross-country skills are also needed.

The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Oregon State University Extension Office on Southeast Douglas. Representatives will be able to answer questions and provide applications to those who are interested. Free hotdogs will be provided at the event. Those ages 17 and up are welcome to attend.
