DEVIL’S KNOB COMPLEX UP BY OVER 550 ACRES

September 17, 2021 11:00 a.m.

The Devil’s Knob Complex has grown by over 550 acres.

An update from the Rocky Mountain Type 1 Incident Management Team said on Thursday firefighters were successful in increasing containment on the Smith Fire by going direct on the uncontained parts of the fire.

The progress of the last 10 days will be tested by the expected increase in fire behavior. Elevated behavior may result from low humidity, temperatures near 80 degrees and wind gusts of up to 20 miles per hour. Firefighters will continue to implement work of the last several days, although they will be extra vigilant to changing conditions and observant of fire behavior. Rains are expected to begin Saturday morning, with significant accumulations predicted before Monday.

The Smith Fire has grown to 46,865 acres and 34 percent containment. The Big Hamlin Fire has had minimal growth and remains at 19,350 acres and 89 percent contained.
