Congressman Peter DeFazio has received the Wayne Morse Historical Park Corporation Integrity in Politics Award.

A release said the award recognizes elected officials who uphold the ideals championed by former Oregon U.S. Senator Wayne Morse throughout his political life and career.

DeFazio said he is “…honored and humbled” to receive the award and be associated with Morse who he said “…is a hero of mine”. DeFazio said, “Like Senator Morse, my congressional career has been guided by the principle of independence. My work has never been guided by what’s best for my party or my own political career”. DeFazio said there are times where he disagrees with presidents or his own party leadership but, “…unlike other politicians, it’s clear where I stand – with the people of Oregon”.

The release said in 1987, the Wayne Morse Historical Park Corporation launched the award to encourage integrity in politics. DeFazio is the 10th recipient of the award.
