SKYLINE RIDGE COMPLEX BURNING IN 1,516 ACRES IN SOUTHERN DOUGLAS COUNTY

August 6, 2021 4:25 a.m.

The Skyline Ridge Complex of fires is burning in 1,516 acres in southern Douglas County.

An update from Northwest Incident Management Team 1 said after several hot days, temperatures were 10 to 15 degrees cooler on Thursday, with higher humidity. That combination reduced activity on the Complex. Firefighters attacked one new fire discovered near Packard Creek, holding it to 2 acres.

Burning debris rolling down steep slopes continued to create control problems, including on the Poole Creek and Packard Creek fires. These two fires gained acreage on Thursday, while other fires mostly stayed within their previous perimeters.

Fire personnel are concentrating on corralling the many smaller fires, to keep them at their current size. Most are fully surrounded by fire lines and hose lays, and crews are extinguishing hot areas near the fire edges. As more of these fires are brought under control, resources are being shifted to the Poole Creek Fire. That fire is just over 1,100 acres and has been pushing to the southeast.

The weather is expected to help firefighting efforts over the next few days before hotter, drier weather returns next week. More firefighting resources are arriving at the fire daily.
