SURGE IN COVID-19 CASES CONTINUES IN OREGON

A surge in COVID-19 cases continues in Oregon as COVID-19 has claimed 5 more lives, raising the state’s death toll to 2,843, as of Tuesday.

An update from the Oregon Health Authority reported 1,032 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19, bringing the state total to 216,875.

Dr. Dean Sidelinger, state epidemiologist and state health officer said, “Today’s reported sharp rise in confirmed and presumptive cases and in hospitalizations in Oregon are sobering reminders that the pandemic is not over, especially for Oregonians who remain unvaccinated”. Sidelinger said Delta variant has increased tenfold in the past two weeks in Oregon and is now estimated to be associated with 80 percent of the new cases in the state. The new cases include:

*107 in Jackson County

*98 in Washington County

*92 in Lane County

*74 in Multnomah County

*72 in Clackamas County

*63 in Douglas County

*35 in Deschutes County

*30 in Yamhill County

*27 in Linn County

*24 in Polk County

*19 each in Jefferson, Josephine and Union counties

*18 in Klamath County

*14 in Benton County

*13 each in Clatsop, Columbia and Lincoln counties

*9 each in Malheur, and Wasco counties

*8 in Crook County

*5 in Curry County

*4 each in Coos, Hood River and Morrow counties

*3 each in Baker, Tillamook and Wallowa counties

*2 each in Harney and Lake counties

*1 each in Gilliam and Grant counties

The new deaths ranged in age from 58 to 90. 2 lived in Lane County. 1 each lived in Marion, Polk and Josephine counties.

OHA said the total number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19 across Oregon is 259.which is 52 more than on Monday. There are 77 COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit beds, which is 19 more than on Monday.

OHA reported that 5,018 new doses of COVID-19 vaccinations were added to the state immunization registry. Of that total, 2,672 doses were administered on Monday. 2,346 were administered on previous days, but were entered into the vaccine registry on Monday.
