A Canyonville man was jailed on multiple charges following a lengthy standoff on Monday.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at 12:00 p.m. dispatchers received a report from a female who stated she had been assaulted by 27-year old Robert Brown at the Stage Coach Apartments in the 600 block of Stage Coach Road in Canyonville. The woman said that during the incident, Brown had pointed a fire arm at her. The victim said she had been able to escape from the apartment where the incident took place with her children.

O’Dell said deputies arrived on the scene and made sure the area was safe. A reverse 911 was issued to notify nearby residents and provide safety information. O’Dell said Brown refused to exit the apartment and the stand off ensued. Members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiations Team attempted to speak with Brown for several hours without success. O’Dell said the Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team was also dispatched to the scene.

Brown eventually responded to negotiator’s attempts to communicate and spoke with them on the phone. O’Dell said Brown ultimately surrendered peacefully shortly after 6:00 p.m. He was taken into custody without incident.

Deputies served a search warrant and recovered evidence related to the crimes. Brown was charged with a felony count of strangulation, a felony count of 4th degree assault, harassment, reckless driving, two counts of recklessly endangering, menacing, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and for pointing a firearm at another. Bail was set at $283,750.

O’Dell said DCSO was assisted by the Cow Creek Tribal Police Department.
