The newest member of the Roseburg City Council was sworn in on Wednesday.

City Recorder Amy Sowa administered the oath of office to Shelley Briggs Loosley who takes over as a Ward 2 councilor. She joins Andrea Zielinski in representing that ward.

The City Council appointed Briggs Loosely to replace Councilor Sheila Cox, who resigned in early May for family reasons.

Briggs Loosely said she is excited to use all her skills from the last 40 years in Roseburg. A member of the Roseburg Homeless Commission, Briggs Loosely is board chair for the YMCA, board president for the Family Development Center and a board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Umpqua Valley. In years past she directed the Roseburg Visitors and Convention Bureau, and formerly served on the boards of Adapt, Peace at Home Advocacy Center and Mercy Foundation.

Briggs Loosley will serve for the rest of this term, through the end of 2022.
