MAN JAILED FOLLOWING ALLEGED HIT AND RUN INCIDENT

A Roseburg man was jailed following an alleged hit and run incident on Monday.

A Roseburg Police report said at about 6:50 p.m. a man was driving at a very high rate of speed on Southeast Hawthorne as a second driver was coming down the hill. The man went around a sweeping right hand turn and hit the other driver’s side front bumper, nearly striking the second vehicle head on. The report said the first vehicle left the roadway and was stopped by a group of large bushes

The report said the man who caused the wreck walked away from the scene. Officers located him a short distance away and he was allegedly extremely intoxicated. The man consented to field sobriety tests and performed poorly, according to the report

The driver, identified as 38-year old John Kliestik, was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, failure to perform the duties of a driver-misdemeanor and for a probation violation. He was held without bail.
