An Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for much of southern Oregon from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said dangerously hot conditions with temperatures as high as 109 degrees are possible west of the Cascades and up to 100 degrees east of the Cascades. Overnight lows will be as high as 72 degrees.

Forecasters said the extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. Daily high temperature records will likely be broken. Forecasters said there is a chance to break the all-time June high temperature record.

The heat watch is in place for much or all of Douglas, Josephine, Jackson, Curry and Klamath counties.
