The Stewart Parkway Bridge fully reopened ahead of schedule on Tuesday, following maintenance work.

Communications Specialist Suzanne Hurt with the City of Roseburg said contractors replaced end panels and expansion joints so the bridge over the South Umpqua River can expand and contract with temperatures.

Hurt said the project, which replaced 20-foot heavy concrete slabs that tie the asphalt roadway to the concrete bridge, cost just under $344,000 and was finished three days before the expected completion date of Friday.

Funding for the work came from the city’s Transportation Fund.
