A Riddle man was jailed for strangulation, fourth-degree assault and other charges following an incident early Wednesday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at about 2:45 a.m. a victim arrived at another residence in Riddle and said she had just been assaulted by Joshua Lampton. A deputy spoke to the victim who said she awoke to find Lampton on top of her choking her with his arm before throwing her up against the wall. The victim claimed the man then put her in a headlock and threatened to kill her. The victim said she was able to escape and went to her current location.

The report said Lampton was contacted in the 200 block of E Street, and was extremely confrontational and continuously cursed at the deputy. Lampton allegedly resisted being taken into custody and had to be taken to the ground.

Additional charges included resisting arrest, interfering with a peace officer, and third-degree escape. After arraignment, bail was set at $22,500.
