Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association and both the Days Creek and Canyonville-South Umpqua Rural Fire Departments responded to a grass fire Tuesday afternoon near the 9,500 block of Tiller-Trail Highway.

Kyle Reed of DFPA said upon arriving at around 4:15 p.m. firefighters reported a slow-moving grass fire that was approximately one-half area in size. The incident, named the Green Springs Fire, was quickly contained. Reed said a preliminary investigation indicated that the cause of the fire was powerline related.

The Green Springs Fire is the 46th wildland fire suppressed by DFPA this year. Reed said roughly 315 acres has burned so far in 2021. Both the number of fires and the acres burned are above DFPA’s 10-year average for the same time period, which is 15 fires burning about 85 acres.
