An attic fire was quickly extinguished early Monday, displacing three people and two dogs.

Battalion Chief Scott Richardson of Douglas County Fire District No. 2 said the fire was reported at about 7:15 a.m. in the 11,000 block of Old Highway 99 South, south of Dillard.

Richardson said firefighters arrived to find an active fire burning in the attic, which had originated near a furnace. Firefighters were able to access the attic by cutting several holes to extinguish the fire. Crews remained on scene to completely overhaul the attic and make sure that no fire remained. Richardson said several rafters in the attic were severely burnt.

The fire was brought under control within 25 minutes and no injuries were reported. The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
