ROSEBURG PUBLIC LIBRARY HOSTS COMMUNITY BOOK DISCUSSION

April 26, 2021 10:20 a.m.

Roseburg Public Library will host a community book discussion on Thursday night.

Resource Assistance for Rural Environments participant Katie Fisher will facilitate the event, looking at the book ‘rough house” by Tina Ontiveros. Its part of the library’s first Roseburg Reads community book project.

The conversation will look at rural and generational poverty, housing instability, addiction and barriers that keep children of hardship from realizing their potential. Ontiveros was the first person in her family to go to college, earning a bachelors degree in literature and a master of fine arts degree in nonfiction writing. She teaches writing and literature at Columbia Gorge Community College in The Dalles. The book explores her upbringing, particularly her relationship with her father, who spent his final years in Douglas County.

Copies of the book are available through the library’s catalog: https://roseburg.biblionix.com/catalog

The online program is free and open to the public. Email: kfischer@cityofroseburg.org for a Zoom invite for the discussion. It will begin at 6:30 p.m.
