The YMCA of Douglas County has introduced Cody Brockelmeyer is its new CEO.
A release said the announcement represents the culmination of a six-month national search the organization undertook, and a return home for a 2001 graduate of Umpqua Valley Christian School.
Brockelmeyer, a 15-year veteran of the U.S. Marines, most recently served as assistant professor and director of operations at the University of Notre Dame. The release said Brockelmeyer has been tabbed by the YMCA to build and lead staff, improve operating performance, advocate for the vision of the organization, manage finances and develop a culture of philanthropy.
Board President Shelley Briggs Loosely said during their search, they looked at candidates from throughout the country, but Brockelmeyer stood out among the rest. She said, “His energy and vision for the YMCA is exactly what we were looking for in a leader”. Briggs Loosely said with his experience and passion towards youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, “…we are convinced the YMCA will have fantastic leadership”.
Brockelmeyer completed his bachelor’s degree in humanities from the University of Maryland Global Campus. He later earned his MBA in management from Bushnell University and a Doctor of Business Administration in human resources from Northcentral University. Brockelmeyer also holds certificates in strategic leadership and executive management from the University of Notre Dame.
Born in California, Brockelmeyer moved to Roseburg at the age of 11. Brockelmeyer said because he is leaving active duty, its important to him that he find another organization of people who “…believe in selfless services to others, and our local Y is exactly the opportunity I am looking for to continue to serve”. Brockelway said while he has been away from Roseburg for 20 years, he has maintained close relationships with friends, family and the community.
Brockelmeyer will begin his new position in mid-June, replacing CEO of Record Matt Lund, who served in the position for more than a year. Lund has led the local organization while also being the YMCA of Grants Pass CEO as well.
