A Roseburg man died following a single-vehicle accident on Friday.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said just after 5:00 p.m. 66-year old Michael Ackley was driving eastbound in the 6000 block of Old Melrose Road towing a small enclosed trailer when he drove off the roadway and struck a tree. Witnesses said the man was traveling at approximately 45 miles per hour when he slowly turned left across the oncoming lane and over the shoulder, before his pickup hit the tree.

O’Dell said the man was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center before being life-flighted to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield.

O’Dell said the Lane County Medical Examiner’s Office has advised DCSO that the Ackley passed away from his injuries later that evening.
