One person is dead, and several people were taken to the hospital following a shooting incident Monday afternoon at the Budget 16 Motel in the 1,000 block of Northeast Stephens in Roseburg.

The shooting was reported just before 3:00 p.m. and led to a large presence of law enforcement from multiple agencies descending on the area.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said dispatchers received multiple reports of the shooting.

Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of the Roseburg Police told News Radio 1240 KQEN that the victims were treated in the parking lot of the motel before being transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. Eichenbusch said a suspect was taken into custody across the street from the motel on Northeast Nuener Street before also being taken to the hospital to be treated. Crime scene tape surrounded that residence.

While not yet named by police as the suspect, 33-year old Devin McNamara was booked into the Douglas County Jail Monday night. He was charged with one count of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault.

Information regarding the victims has not yet been released.

Northeast Stephens from Garden Valley Boulevard south to Diamond Lake Boulevard was closed for nearly an hour, following the shooting. That snarled traffic in the area. School buses and Utrans buses had to be rerouted.

More information is expected to be released by the Roseburg Police later Tuesday  morning.
