A Florence woman was jailed after allegedly resisting arrest and assaulting a deputy on Sunday afternoon.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 3:00 p.m. a deputy made a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Highway Avenue in Reedsport. O’Dell said during the course of the stop, the deputy learned that the female passenger, Lynne Sigmund, had a warrant for her arrest. The report said the 54-year old exited the vehicle and became confrontational. When the deputy attempted to place her into handcuffs, Sigmund allegedly began resisting arrest.

O’Dell said the suspect retrieved a can of pork and beans from her vehicle and threatened to throw it at the deputy. The deputy attempted to use his taser device but it was ineffective. O’Dell said at this point, the woman did throw the can, but she missed hitting the deputy’s head.

The report said the deputy then physically attempted to take Sigmund into custody. She continued to resist arrest and managed to kick the deputy in the ribs, twice. The suspect was ultimately taken into custody. O’Dell said during the struggle the deputy sustained scratch marks to his arms, forehead and right ear.

Sigmund was charged with assault on a public safety officer, resisting arrest, interfering with a peace officer, second degree disorderly conduct, third degree criminal mischief and for the warrant. Bail was set at $117,500.
