Marine deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office discovered a serious injury vehicle crash on Wednesday, while on their way to patrol Ben Irving Reservoir.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said shortly before 10:45 a.m. a deputy and a cadet were driving to the boat ramp at the reservoir when the cadet observed a vehicle over a steep embankment near the water. O’Dell said once they got out of their vehicle a woman could be heard yelling for help.

The deputies made an immediate request for fire and medical to respond along with a steep angle rescue team.

The woman, 65-year old Marie Wise of Roseburg, was found to be outside of her vehicle, conscious and breathing, but unable to move. Wise said she had crashed two days before being discovered. It was later determined that she had left Bandon on Tuesday morning at about 10:45 a.m. O’Dell said the actual date and time of the crash is unknown at this time.

Fire and EMS crews were able to get Wise to the roadway and transported her to the boat ramp where she was transported by REACH Air Medical Services helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical at Riverbend in Springfield. She is currently in stable condition.

DCSO was assisted by multiple agencies. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call DCSO at 440-4471.
