Due to consistent increases in COVID-19 cases and positivity rates in Douglas County, Roseburg Public Schools will not be able to return grades 4-12 to in-person learning on November 2nd.
A message sent to parents of students in the district said the strategy moving forward will be to monitor case rates week by week and reopen to those grades once the state-required metrics are met. The parent letter said the district will communicate its status weekly on its website, so that staff, students and parents can prepare for the transition. The state metrics must be met for three consecutive weeks in order to qualify for those grade levels to return to in-person learning.
The letter said, “Please remember that the virus and our abilities to reduce its spread in our community will remain key to the reopening timeline”.
In an effort to better understand the successes and challenges of remote learning, the letter said the district is distributing surveys to staff, students, and families to assess how the remote learning process is working and how it can be improved.
