FEMA UPDATE FOR DOUGLAS COUNTY

October 15, 2020 3:45 a.m.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has updated information for residents of Douglas County impacted by the recent wildfires.

Nate Custer said housing solutions are available to survivors of the fires, but the first step is to apply with FEMA for federal disaster assistance. Go to: https://www.disasterassistance.gov/, call 800-621 or use the FEMA app to apply.

Oregon’s Debris Management Task Force is leading hazardous waste cleanup, prioritized due to the immediate threat to health, safety, and the environment. Hazardous waste cleanup has been funded to Douglas and several other counties. Debris removal may include the clearance, removal and/or disposal of items such as trees, sand and gravel, building components, wreckage, vehicles and property.

Custer said if state, tribal or local governments authorize residents to place incident-related debris on public right-of-way, FEMA may provide funding for a limited period of time to remove debris from the right-of-way.

Right of Entry Forms are due to counties by October 16th and must be signed before free hazardous waste removal can occur. ROE forms are available at: https://wildfire.oregon.gov/cleanup.

Custer said state, county and federal partners are developing funding and implementation options for ash and debris removal. Addition information is expected soon.

Disaster Survivor Assistance teams are working to help survivors apply for assistance and answer questions. A team is at Glide Middle School weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
