Staff with the Oregon Department of Forestry are closely monitoring ten major fires in Oregon.
Over 6,500 people around the United States and Canada are assigned to the fires. That doesn’t include the many government emergency response employees, landowners, forestland operators, and members of the community who are contributing to the fight in any way they can. About 1 million acres have burned in Oregon since the start of the year, which is nearly double the 10-year average of approximately 557,811 acres.
Along with the Archie Creek Fire and the Thielsen Fire, both burning in Douglas County, the fires include:
*Lionshead Fire west of Warm Springs is at nearly 193,000 acres and 10 percent contained.
*Beachie Creek Fire, 15 miles north of Detriot is just over 192,000 acres and 20 percent contained
*Holiday Farm Fire, 3 miles west of McKenzie Bridge is over 172,000 acres and 10 percent contained
