AIR POLLUTION/DENSE SMOKE ADVISORIES CONTINUE

September 14, 2020 12:00 p.m.

An Air Pollution Advisory is in effect until further notice, with a Dense Smoke Advisory in place until 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Officials with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said wildfires burning in the region combined with forecast conditions are causing air quality levels to fluctuate and could be at unhealthy levels.

Pollutants in smoke can cause burning eyes, runny nose, can aggravate heart and lung diseases and can aggravate other serious health problems. Residents should avoid outdoor activities and should keep children indoors if it is smoky. People should consider leaving the area if smoke levels are hazardous and they have heart disease, asthma and other respiratory conditions.

Roseburg’s air quality is in the hazardous category Monday, according to the DEQ.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said driving conditions are hazardous with visibility of a quarter mile or less in dense smoke.
