WINCHESTER AREA IMPROVEMENT WORK WRAPPING UP THIS MONTH

June 1, 2020 3:30 a.m.
Work on the Winchester Area Improvement Project is slated to wrap up this month, according to the Douglas County Public Works Department.
A release said the project, on Northeast Stephens Street just north of the Roseburg city limits, has experienced delays in its expected completion date due to adverse weather conditions, material delays, unforeseen ground conditions as well as delays related to COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.
The project includes the construction of bike lanes, curb, gutter and storm sewer improvements, a sidewalk along the eastern side of the roadway, transit bus pull-outs and the replacement of two bridges to accommodate the wider roadway section.
The release said top lift final paving is taking place this week with road and lane striping set to begin next week.
Motorists are asked to use caution as they travel through the construction zone and watch for flaggers.
