Government offices are closed for Memorial Day.
That includes federal, state, county and city government offices around Douglas County. No regular mail will be delivered. Banks and credit unions are closed.
A release from the Douglas County Commissioners said Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May to commemorate the brave men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. This year Memorial Day is being observed for the 152nd time. First observed during the Civil War, the federal holiday was originally known as Decoration Day. It was a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers.
