COUNTY OFFICES TO BE CLOSED MONDAY

May 22, 2020 4:35 a.m.
County government offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day.
A release from the Douglas County Commissioners said the courthouse building, justice center, County Annex in Reedsport, transfer stations, landfill and all external government offices will not be open.
Currently the museum and the fairgrounds remain closed under the Governor’s COVID-19 executive orders.
The release said, first observed during the Civil War, this year Memorial Day will be observed for the 152nd time. It was originally known as Decoration Day and was a time for the nation to decorate the graves of war dead with flowers. May was believed to have been chosen because flowers would be in bloom across the country.
The release said even though local celebrations will be limited during the pandemic, Douglas County Commissioners would like to encourage citizens to honor veterans on Monday, and pay tribute to the brave men and women who paid the ultimate price for the nation.
