FAGAN APPARENT PRIMARY WINNER IN SECRETARY OF STATE RACE

Shemia Fagan has pulled ahead and is the apparent winner in the race for the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State in Oregon.
Mark Hass had been named the winner by a number of media outlets but as more ballots were processed, Fagan went from being behind by close to one percentage point to being ahead by less than half a percentage point. Fagan’s margin of victory was only 1,950 votes out of nearly 390,000 votes cast for the two candidates as of 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office. Jamie McLeod Skinner remains in third place with nearly 28 percent of the vote.
Fagan’s victory is still enough of a win to avoid a recount. Oregon Revised Statues mandate a recount when the margin of votes between two candidates is not more than one fifth of one percent of the total votes cast for both candidates.
Fagan was a late entry to the race, filing near the end of February after another candidate, former House Majority Leader Jennifer Williamson, dropped out of the race.
