A section of Interstate Five was shut down in both directions for approximately 30 minutes by a vehicle fire that spread to the surrounding vegetation on Friday afternoon.
Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said just before 2:00 p.m. crews from DFPA and the Tri-City Rural Fire Department responded when a northbound motorhome caught fire in the Riddle and Tri-City area near milepost 103.

When crews arrived, the motorhome was fully involved and approximately three quarters of an acre of wildland fuels were on fire. Additional resources were requested from the Myrtle Creek, Riddle, Canyonville-South Umpqua, and Winston Dillard fire departments.

Reed said the motorhome and the vehicle it was towing were destroyed by the fire. Approximately one and a half acres of grass and brush were consumed.
The Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon State Police also responded to the fire.
