The Oregon Department of Transportation is continuing work on the northbound and southbound approach to Roberts Mountain on Interstate Five and that means lane closures on Roberts Mountain Road starting Tuesday.
Dan Latham of ODOT said the road is near the south foot of the mountain. Traffic is limited to a single lane. A temporary signal is providing traffic control and local motorists can expect brief delays over the next several months. Latham said the lane closures will allow workers to build a retaining wall between Roberts Mountain Road and the freeway travel lanes.
On a two-mile stretch of Roberts Mountain, the freeway speed limit has been reduced to 55 miles per hour. The southbound shoulder is closed in this area. Trucks should use the right lane in both the northbound and southbound directions.
Throughout the work zone, drivers should watch for intermittent lane and shoulder closures, and for construction vehicles entering and exiting the travel lanes.
