The Umpqua Community College Performing and Visual Arts Department presents violinist Alex DePue in concert on Tuesday October 29th at 7:00 p.m. in Centerstage Theatre of the Whipple Fine Arts Center on the main UCC campus. DePue will perform with the Umpqua Chamber Orchestra and the Umpqua Singers, performing a variety of music styles ranging from classical to rock.
A release from UCC said DePue began studying classical violin at age 5. He won his first university-level competition at age 10 and by age 14 won a competition that entitled him to play at Carnegie Hall as the Concertmaster for the National Guild Youth Symphony Orchestra. He has continued to win competitions and appear as a guest soloist with orchestras and at festivals worldwide.
Despite his classical training, DePue became interested in fiddling at age 7 and began competing in fiddle contests. He went on to tour with country recording artist Chris Cagle for six years before touring with a rock act as well.
Tickets are $20 in advance for reserved seating which is up close. General admission seating is $10 at the door. Call UCC at 440-4691 for more information.
