OPERATION TINY HOME TO PRESENT KEYS TO HOMES TO UCAN

September 25, 2019 3:45 a.m.
The Roseburg community will receive the keys to two tiny homes in a long-awaited gifting ceremony at the Valiant Seed Veterans Village this Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Operation Tiny Home will present the United Community Action Network with the keys to the tiny homes that will be used as an affordable semi-permanent housing solution for female veterans struggling with housing instability.
Veterans are invited to pre-register for a two-day tiny home custom furniture and finish carpentry workshop that will culminate with the celebration at the site of the village at 1022 Southeast Cobb Street. The workshop will be Thursday and Friday, led by A&E television series Tiny House Nation Co-Host Zack Griffin. It will provide members of the community a hands-on opportunity to learn tiny homes carpentry and multifunctional furniture skills, while completing the two donated tiny homes. Go to http://www.operationtinyhome.org/oregon-workshop-registration for workshop information.
Valiant Seed Founder and Executive Director Teresa Mankin said she is excited to see the first tiny homes for female veterans in Douglas County ready for their occupants. She said she hopes this serves as an additional model for “what affordable housing can look like in Douglas County”. Valiant Seed and Operation Tiny Home teamed up last Veterans Day to start the project. Dozens of local veterans turned out for a three-day workshop led by Griffin to build the first home.
A release from Operation Tiny Home said the gifting ceremony will be all about gifting the homes to the community, as well as acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of donors, partners, participants and volunteers that worked together make the homes possible.
