CONSTRUCTION UPDATE ON WINCHESTER IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

August 29, 2019 3:50 a.m.
Crews with the Douglas County Public Works Department, in conjunction with contractors, are making progress on the Old Highway 99 North – Winchester Safety Improvement Project.
The project includes the construction of bike lanes, curb, gutter and storm sewer improvements along both sides of the roadway, a sidewalk on the eastern side of the roadway, transit bus pullouts, and more. Also included is replacing 2 bridges to accommodate the wider roadway section.
The update from Public Works said crews will complete work on the South Bridge replacement in the next 2 weeks. That bridge is just north of Taft Drive and south of Virgia Lane, where Highway 99 crosses Davis Creek. It has been closed since June 24th. The plan is to open the new South Bridge on Monday September 9th. That’s the same day that work is set to begin on the North Bridge replacement.
The North Bridge, located between Pioneer Way and Page Road where Highway 99 crosses Davis Creek, will then be closed until October 30th.
During the North Bridge closure, all through traffic must detour to Interstate 5 when going between Edenbower Boulevard at exit 127 and Del Rio Road at exit 129. There will be northbound local access for businesses and residents up to Page Road. Southbound access for businesses and residents will go up to Pioneer Way. Pedestrian, non-motorized and emergency vehicle access will be available. All local businesses as well as recreational opportunities at Amacher Park, will be open and accessible throughout the construction process and the bridge closure.
