DOUGLAS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE ANNOUNCES ADDITION OF NEW K9 UNIT

August 16, 2019 10:00 a.m.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office announced the addition of a second K9 team on Wednesday.
According to information from DCSO, a generous donation from a couple in the community and the financial support of the Friends of Umpqua Valley Police K-9 Programs made the new addition possible.
The K9 will then be partnered with Deputy Brandon Black. The dog will live with Deputy Black and the two will begin bonding before they undergo a training and certification process in partnership with the Springfield Police Department and Oregon Police Canine Association this fall.
Sargent Brad O’Dell says the department is “very excited about this opportunity. This isn’t just great news for the Sheriff’s Office, this is something that the entire community will benefit from.” O’Dell went on to thank everyone involved in making the new addition possible.
The new team will be joining Deputy Rosas and K9 Grim to enhance the services the Sheriff’s Office is able to provide.
K9 Grim, a 7-year-old German Shepherd, was purchased for the agency in 2013 and has proven to be a successful addition to DCSO.
The Friends of Umpqua Valley Police K-9 Programs is able to support the police programs in the county through fundraisers and donations from the community.
