RIVER APPRECIATION DAY IS SATURDAY

The 33rd annual River Appreciation Day is set for this Saturday at Whistler’s Bend Park east of Roseburg.
Information from Umpqua Watersheds, said activities will include swimming, floating, disc golfing and more.
The release said the event started following the efforts of citizens around the state who were committing time, energy and resources to protect the rivers. The first River Appreciation Day was in 1987 at Riverforks Park. Two years later the Oregon Legislature passed a resolution officially naming the third Saturday in July as River Appreciation Day.
Saturday’s event includes live music from several groups along with local food vendors, environmental speakers, and art activities.
