July 3, 2019 10:30 a.m.
The Douglas County Museum is turning 50 this summer and volunteers are still needed for the Mammoth 50th Anniversary event on Saturday July 20th.
The family friendly event will take place from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the museum grounds and will be filled with tons of kid’s activities, face painting, booths, food trucks, and more, according to organizers. The museum will be free to visitors that day. Music will include Dan Harmon and Cascade Country at 3:00 p.m., Ty Curtis at 5:00 p.m. and Resurrection, a Journey tribute band at 7:00 p.m.
A release from the museum said it was established by the Board of Commissioners in 1969 and opened its doors for the first time in August of that year, in conjunction with the start of the Douglas County Fair. The museum is the recipient of the 1989 Award of Merit from the American Association for State and Local History, for excellence and leadership in the field of local history. It is also the recipient of a Top 10 Best Fan-Favorite Destination in Oregon award for 2019.
Volunteers for the Mammoth 50th Anniversary can help with assisting those with questions, directing traffic, and helping with children’s activities. Those who are interested can contact the museum at 957-7007.
