Douglas County Government will close for the 4th of July.
A release from the Board of Commissioners said that means the Courthouse, Justice Building, Courthouse Annex, Transfer Stations, Landfill, Museum, Fairgrounds office and all external Douglas County Government offices will be closed to the public in observance of American Independence Day. Departments and locations will resume their normal operating hours on Friday, however the release notes that some offices are not open on Fridays.
The Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum will be open for visitors on July 4th for normal business hours. The Douglas County Fairgrounds will hold the third annual Great Umpqua Food Truck Competition, Battle of the Bands, and the Roseburg Hometown Fireworks from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The release said that event is presented by the Umpqua Economic Development Partnership, with support from the county commissioners, Douglas County Industrial Development Board, the Douglas County Fairgrounds and the Roseburg Hometown Fireworks Committee.
The release said Independence Day has been a federal holiday in the United States since 1941 but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century with the American Revolution.
