Staff with Douglas County Fire District No.2 expects to do a “burn to learn” on a house at 2369 Landers Avenue in Green in February, but until then has several weeks of training planned.
Training Officer Nick Wecks said the exercises aim to provide training to its personnel under realistic conditions. Crews will practice search and rescue skills and fire attack, ventilation and exposure protection activities. Wecks said the exercises allow them to maintain their skills at an optimum level, helping to assure that staff is ready when a real structure fire occurs.
The live fire training is planned for February 25th, and will be a controlled event. Additional resources will help ensure that the drill is conducted safely, both for fire personnel and for the property protection of others.
Wecks said staff will be constantly monitoring the wind conditions and the effect the exercise may have on the residents in that area. A Fire District No. 2 representative will be at the exercise until the fire is completely extinguished.
Anyone with questions or concerns regarding the exercise is asked to call FD No. 2 at 673-5503.
