A man is hospitalized after his wheelchair was hit by an SUV Sunday night.
A Roseburg Police report said at 6:15 p.m. the man was crossing Southeast Stephens Street in the 900 block when his blankets got stuck in his wheelchair and he subsequently was hit by the vehicle. The driver helped the man get back into his wheelchair, and left the scene after being told that the victim was okay.
An ambulance arrived a short time later and transported the man in the wheelchair to CHI Mercy Medical Center after he complained of hip pain. An investigation revealed that the motorist did not have a valid driver license or insurance. His SUV sustained minor damage while the front bumper to the wheelchair was totaled.
The victim is listed in fair condition at last check, according to a hospital spokesperson. The driver was cited for the traffic violations.
