A duplex was damaged by fire at Eagles Landing in the 900 block of Northwest Veterans Way, just after 5:15 p.m. Friday.
Fire Marshal Brian Jewell of the Roseburg Fire Department said the person reporting the fire said a stove was on fire and that one unit of the duplex was filling up with smoke.
Jewell said firefighters arrived on the scene to find smoke showing from the front and back door of the unit. The sprinkler system had activated with water flowing from the structure. Water was found to be flowing throughout the residence and out the front door.
Jewell said the structure had an automatic fire sprinkler system installed. The sprinkler system had activated when exposed to the fire, effectively extinguishing it and preventing the fire from spreading. The fire was contained to the kitchen area of the duplex, which sustained heavy damage.
Three residents and two dogs were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The duplex suffered water damage throughout both units.
Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and other agencies assisted RFD at the fire.
