Cow Creek Public Health has adjusted its vaccine schedule and is offering doses of the newly updated COVID-19 booster, to all members of the community five days a week.

Melinda Sprague of CCPH said the booster has been redesigned to protect against prevalent strains of the virus.

CCPH will administer boosters, as well as the primary vaccine series, at its mobile vaccine drive-through site at 2360 Northeast Stephens Street in Roseburg. It is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

Sprague said the boosters, known as bivalent, are made by both Pfizer and Moderna, and use mRNA formulas to target the BA.4 and BA.5 strains of the coronavirus. Sprague said its recommended that every person age 12 and older receive the updated bivalent booster, as long as they’ve received their initial series of vaccine. If a person received their last booster recently, it’s recommended they wait at least two months before getting the updated booster. Those who have recently been infected with COVID-19, should be fully recovered before getting the updated booster.

Sprague said as a way for the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians to say thank you to the community for getting boosted, everyone who gets their COVID-19 booster will also receive a $20 VISA gift card.
