Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Chris Boice and Tom Kress have announced that the County Park’s Department has leased the 3,400 square foot commercial retail building being constructed on the grounds of Umpqua Dunes County Park & Campground in Winchester Bay to Fritz, Jeff and Steve Bailey.
A release said they are also the new owners of Pelican Market on Highway 101 in Winchester Bay. The Baileys were the successful bidder for the proposal process conducted earlier in the summer.
Umpqua Dunes, formerly known as Discovery Point, was purchased by the County from private owners in March of 2018. Construction of a new retail building began in May and is expected to be completed in October. The store is scheduled to open in January. It is one of a series of improvements the Commissioners and the Parks Department have initiated as part of the Douglas County Parks Enhancement Plan. The new building construction will be followed by the rehabilitation of campsites in the north loop of the campground, with an anticipated completion date of spring in 2023.
