RED FLAG WARNING THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING

September 10, 2022 6:40 a.m.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect through 8:00 p.m. Saturday for the Umpqua Basin, Umpqua National Forest, Siskiyou Mountains and Southern Oregon Cascades, and the eastern Rogue Valley.

An Urgent Fire Weather Message from the National Weather Service said any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

East winds of 10 to 20 miles per hour are expected with gusts to 35 miles per hour. Winds should shift northwest in mid to late Saturday afternoon. Very unstable conditions with a high Haines index of 6 are expected everywhere except at the coast Saturday afternoon, which could lead to fire growing rapidly.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. These conditions promote rapid spread of fire which may become life threatening. Evacuate if ordered to, or if a fire threatens.
