RED FLAG WARNING THROUGH 8:00 P.M. SATURDAY

September 9, 2020 3:10 p.m.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect through 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

An Urgent Fire Weather Message from the National Weather Service said the Warning is for the Umpqua Basin, Umpqua National Forest, Southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains, and eastern Rogue Valley.

Forecasters said any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Gusty winds combined with low humidity will bring critical conditions into Friday evening. Poor overnight recoveries, especially near and at ridges are expected overnight into Saturday morning. Low humidity and gusty east winds will continue over and near the mountain areas and into most of the westside, including coastal mountains, into Saturday evening.

Forecasters said a Red Flag Warning means that critical fire conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. These conditions promote rapid spread of fire which may become life threatening. Evacuate if ordered to, or if a fire threatens.
