A Red Flag Warning is in effect through 10:00 a.m. Saturday for strong gusty winds and low relative humidity.
An Urgent Fire Weather Message from the National Weather Service said the Warning is for the Umpqua Basin, Umpqua National Forest, Southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains and for the eastern Rogue Valley.
The hazard area will start off confined to the Cascades and grow through the day Friday. It will spread to the foothills Friday night when the poorest recoveries are expected. On Saturday, hot, dry and unstable conditions are possible, which may prompt additional fire weather issues for the Windigo Fire.
Forecasters said a Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. These conditions promote rapid spread of fire which may become life threatening. Evacuate if ordered to, or if a fire threatens.
